  • In 1820, the capital of the state was moved to Vandalia and many years ago Kaskaskia became a vanished city, disappearing under the water of the Mississippi River. 
  • They voted that Vandalia was to remain the state capital for a period of at least 20 years. But on 25th February 1837, the Assembly passed a bill, providing that the state capital be moved from Vandalia to another place. 
  • And three days later on 28th February 1837, Springfield was chosen as the new Capital of the state.
